In April 2021, the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) issued the “Technical Guidelines for the Safety Assessment of Cosmetics (2021 Edition).” These guidelines initially allowed cosmetics registrants and record-filing persons to submit a simplified product safety assessment report, with the deadline set for May 1, 2024.
However, on April 22, 2024, the NMPA announced a one-year extension for submitting the full version of the safety assessment report. This extension provides a critical window for companies to prepare, but it will be the final postponement. Several provinces in China have already started requesting the full version of the report, and the transition period is rapidly coming to an end.
